As Sure As Eggs is Eggs…?

From my own personal experience, I know that there is some confusion regarding procreation. Most of us have a pretty good idea who our parents are, but that’s not quite what I want to think about here.

First of all, the obligatory modern get-out clause: I am not medical person, (I really hate having to say that up front, as we do in the modern world to cover our behinds), but I will try to get my facts straight.

That’s a strange turn of phrase too, isn’t it? If the facts aren’t straight, or correct, then they aren’t facts at all…

Anyway, I want to talk about eggs.

The eggs that we hatched out of in the protection of our mother’s wombs. Human eggs.

The first thing I would like to say, is that I am not trying to teach you how to suck eggs. There is a sort of pun there, but I am not proud of it.

In any case, most people assume that they hatched from an egg that their mother had, and that was fertilised by their biological father. This is undoubtedly true, as far as it goes.

Procreation cycle

However, a girl is born with all the eggs that she will ever have. She has something like two million twenty weeks after conception. However, thousands die every month until puberty, when she will have only a few hundred thousand left (only?). After that, about a thousand die every month.

However, the point is that every girl has all the eggs from birth that she can ever use, and they came from her mother. Women cannot make their own eggs like men make their own sperm.

Therefore, when a baby is born, the egg that it hatched from is actually from its grandmother, not its birth mother!

This is important for my next point.

In Thailand, children are traditionally brought up by their maternal grandparents.

It makes you wonder, or not?

Whose children are they really?
