Most of my books would be considered fantasy by many…
My name is Owen Jones and I am a writer from Barry, south Wales. I have written fifty-odd novels of various length and in various genres. However, many of them would fall into category of Fiction>Fantasy to most readers.
Fantasy Books
However, they are not all fantasy stories to me. A good is The Psychic Megan Series (the book cover on the left is the first volume in the series). It is primarily the story of a young girl’s exploration of her nascent psychic powers. That’s fantasy right?
Well, no, not to me. My parents were Spiritualists, so was my father’s family, and so am I, and the stories in this series are based on what my mother told me about her own journey, and also on mine. Two people’s histories rolled into one. So, in that sense, it is a fantasy, but not in the way that most people would think of the classification.
In fact, the people who get the most enjoyment from this series, have a tendency to believe in the Supernatural. But there we go again…
Supernatural Stories
Supernatural means ‘more than natural’, doesn’t it? Yet, these things were everyday… commonplace, to me as a child, and still are now. These experiences are the most natural things in the world, and I believe that everybody has them, although many don’t recognise them as normal, or don’t even acknowledge them at all. All stuff and nonsense!
This is the attitude that Megan’s mother takes in the books. it is the attitude my mother’s mother, a good Catholic woman, had. Megan, I mean my mother, Marion, suspected that her mother was too scared to admit that she had supernatural episodes too, because the priest wouldn’t have approved, and I think that they were both right.
Paranormal Gifts
Paranormal is another of these words, eh? Meaning ‘beyond normal’. Being psychic is not paranormal… Having two heads is beyond normal! There are twenty-three novelettes in The Psychic Megan Series, and you can read more about them elsewhere on this site.
